C25K - Week 6 Run 2

Another run down. This one was a landmark. Tonight I ran with walking intervals mixed in for the last time. From here on in, the rest of the runs will be completed as non-stop runs. Having done the 20 minute run of last weekend, I know I should be capable of it but I also got a taste of how willpower and mental strength become important. I found myself having to will my legs to just keep going throughout the run. I suppose one of the muscles I’ll be working hard to build will be the one in my head LOL.

Tonight’s run felt good. Two 10 minute runs is a good healthy dose of running but I got through it without too much trouble. My legs felt really strong, especially at the beginning of the run. At the beginning of the warm up, I had to dash across the street and I ran. I noticed that the little dash across the street felt like nothing at all. I just bounced across. I know that would have made me catch breath and would have felt unnatural six weeks ago. I have so much more to accomplish but I love that running has shown me some quick rewards. It just feels so good. I know now that if I weren’t doing my three times weekly runs I would miss them. My body would miss them. I don’t see me stopping any time soon.

I had forgotten my iPod the last few times I went running, that or the battery was flat and so this was the first time in a while that I’ve gotten to do a run with music. It was really nice and I’ve been working on a building up some good running mixes. Favourites from today were Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen and Don’t Hold Back by the Potbelleez. At the top of my list though is definitely Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional. It feels so good to run along to some of the lyrics from that song. Love it.

My shins were less bothersome today. I have been trying to focus on stretching my calves a lot. I’m getting down into a really deep squat position whenever I think of it through the day. I have weak shins and I’m really inflexible in my hips and calves so I need to hang on to something to keep from falling over but today it is feeling a little easier so I think it is helping. I think the stretching helped keep my shins from spasming today on the run so I’m pleased with that.
