Welcome to the first ever Wee Little Worldwide Virtual 5K Event!
28 - 29 June 2008
Super Cool NEW FEATURE! The super supportive Amy of Runners Lounge has offered to donate “I am a runner” bracelets to all of the participants of the Wee Little Virtual 5K Event. I started the V5K because I didn’t want to be running my 5K “alone” so I think this is a great way to stay motivated and united while we do our 5K runs. You will be able to look at your bracelet and think about the great community of runners you are a part of. How awesome is that. I know many of us are starting out, so especially if you are just finishing the C25K for the first time, now is the time to truly declare that you are a runner and you ARE indeed a RUNNER!
To claim your bracelet, shoot Amy an email at amy@runnerslounge.com. Let her know that you are participating in the Wee Little Virtual 5K Event and give her your address details. She will send out your bracelet since I am all the way on the other side of the world to most of our runners.
Runners Lounge is a great site with lots of cool running information to explore and an active community of runners out there to make contact with, and learn from, other runners. I think it’s pretty cool and I’m only just starting to scrape the surface of all the great content on there so check it out. THANK YOU AMY!
Update 8 June 2008: If you are running the race, check out the questionnaire. Post your answers on your blog and let people get to know you and your running
Joining is easy and unlike most things in life there are almost rules. The only thing you have to commit to is moving your body over 5K on the weekend of the event. Treadmill and track running is of course permitted but maybe you want to measure out your own private race course somewhere nice in your city or town. The event is aimed to give people graduating from the C25K program something to shoot for if they are getting set to finish up their training but everyone is welcome. After you run the event, post a your results and a “race report” story and I’ll link to them here so that we can all celebrate each other’s successes. Leave a comment if you want to join and I’ll add you to the even roster below.
Once you’ve let me know you’d like to run, please help spread the word by displaying the Virtual 5K sign on your blog, just copy the following html and add it to your blog or web page:
<a href=”http://weelittleme.wordpress.com/virtual-5k/” target=”_blank”><img src=” http://weelittleme.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/virtual-5k1.png ” border=”0″ alt=”Wee Little Virtual 5K”></a>

Hello, I commented on your previous Virtual 5K post, but I am not on the list. I’d love to participate.
Thanks!
Kitzzy
So sorry I missed you Kitzzy. You’re on the list now and thanks for the heads up.
what a great idea! i’d love to do this! (i’m wrapping up my c25k the weekend of june 7th with a 5k here but i need to stay on the wagon so this is perfect!)
Christieo, welcome aboard.
thanks!! i am having the hardest time cutting and pasting that code into my blog, it just isn’t coming up right for some reason. is that the right code? am i doing something wrong?
I’ll do it. I used google maps to make running routes in my neighborhood since I can’t get out to run a 5k since I’m having car problems.
Hi Christieo,
I’m not sure about the code. I just checked that you are using blogger and I’m afraid I’m not too up with that blogging set up. The code seems to be right in that it works for me when I paste it as html. I See you have other html based items on your blog like the tickers and in theory it should work like that. Maybe another participator that is using blogger might offer a suggestion… any ideas guys?
Thanks for joining Lillian! Glad to have you join the event.
I’m in!
I need motivation this summer with all the heat.
Hi, found your 5k link thru another blog and would like to share it with my virtual Couch to 5k running group. Thanks!
[...] found a blogger who is “hosting” a virtual 5k this month and thought it might be fun to participate. Go check it out. I’m going to do it [...]
[...] Virtual 5K! [...]
Sign me up, please!
This is a great idea.
In fact, the only thing that could make it more perfect would be a T-shirt with your fun virtual 5k logo.
You could create one at http://www.cafepress.com/ for folks (like me) who would love to have one to wear for our runs that weekend & you could even give the proceeds to a charity of your choice.
Cheers!
Welcome BigProf. I tried to leave a comment on your blog but it looks like I can only do that if I have a 3FatChicks blog. If you get a chance check out the questionnaire for runners in my main blog Here
BTW BigProf. I think the T-shirt idea is great but I used some free clip art for the awesome image of the running shoes and I’m not sure what sort of legalities I would get into if making that into a t-shirt. For the next virtual race I’ll need to take the time to actually do up my own art.
[...] 5k! Tiny2b found a virtual 5k race that we can participate in the weekend of June 28-29th! Filed under : GeneralBy bigprof On June 7, [...]
I am going to TRY to do this. I am out of town that weekend, but Saturday is my day to run so I will do my best to get my butt out there. Can we run sometime that week before and still be involved? If not, it will just force me not to drink to much that Friday night!
I have no problem with you substituting an earlier day. Go for it. On the other hand if you need that motivation to behave on your trip I’m willing to put on my stern face LOL.
[...] Thanks tiny2b and bigprof for posting this on their blogs. I can’t get the cute image to work so I am just posting a link to the website: Virtual 5k [...]
Could I sign up for this on the 29th? The reason I am asking is that I am attending a wedding 350 mi from home that particular weekend so I have no idea if I will have time (or energy as I am also moving on Friday, 850 mi from Spain to Germany, added to that the 700 mi round trip for the wedding that’s a lot of time I’ll be spending traveling - though only the 700 mi are done by car and I won’t be driving) to run 5k on one of the days (the only option would be Sunday either before we leave the town the wedding is in or after I get back home), so it would be pretty much a spontaneous decision depending on how I feel).
[...] Virtual 5K! [...]
You certainly can sign up for the the 29th Viviane! Glad to have you on our Wee Little (but mighty) team.

Welcome Catherine and Mellany! Let’s hear it for running down under.

I’d like to join the pack of runners if it’s not too late. Great idea!
Hi Amy! I’m in for the 5K this weekend! Saw it on VRC and heard about it from Jenn (mysecondfirstmarathon). This is a very cool idea!

Hi we had a great 5k!! Did it in 33.30. The weather was great and I felt strong, considering the injuries along the way. It was a nice little shuffle and now I know what I can do!! Thank you! ( Dont we play you in the rugby on Saturday??)
I finished in 38:00
I did mine on Saturday - full report here!
ok.. i might be the last and latest.. but i wanted to report in. I have had issues with running this last week (if you have read my blog.. well. you know ).. all this to say that i was to run on the 29th but the weather would not cooperate :).. so.. i finally ran my 5k this morning.. I thought of all of you as i ran this morning and tried my hardest to run the fastest 5k i have ever run… I finished it in 25:56 .. and it WAS the fastest i have ever run a 5k.
I actually planned to run 4 miles this morning so i finished off with one more mile before heading home. I was exhausted.. but it felt great!
I know i am late signing in.. but i really feel like i was running with you all.. thinking of these stories as i ran yall pushed me to go faster!
I am ready for the next challenge! sign me up!
blessings
ruthie
